After more than 4 years with Djangolaya, we say goodbye to one of our founders, Jean-Pierre Sallet. Jean-Pierre (JP) was inspirational in starting Djangolaya and a mentor to many gypsy jazz guitarists in the DC area. JP will continue to spread the gospel of gypsy jazz but he’ll be doing from his new home in Benin West Africa. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll cross paths at Django in June again.
While we will miss JP, we are happy to welcome back another founding member, Andrew Deshler. Andrew is now doubling his gypsy jazz playing anchoring both Djangolaya and the Hot Club of DC and we’re thrilled to have him back. We’ll also continue to draw on our large network of soloists to support Djangolaya with a wide range of instruments.
The winter months are a time for introspection and gathering of energy. With the changing of the guard there also comes some new material to learn. I don’t want to give too much away but expect to hear more tangos and some old Django favorites. We’ll also make a push to get some material recorded as we are often asked about recordings of our music. Keep an eye on our calendar and Facebook page for new performance dates.
